We have many of these ‘gaudy’ ones in California, supposedly brought over by ships around South America in the 1800s. I even have a photo of them on a beach on the front of a California native plants brochure! ‘Nativists’ are eradicating them along the coastal dunes. Their black skeletons look terrible, lining the beautiful coastal roads. Rather they should get rid of the huge pampas grasses instead.
