Mesembryanthemum barklyi

What you see here is the centre of a young specimen. The plants are annual or biennual, depending on the amount of water available. This is the largest species of the genus, with plants up to 1.5m tall  and leaves as large as 40 cm long and 25 cm wide.
The species is found in sandy plains in the winter rainfall area of SW Namibia and NW Namaqualand.
